We fell in love with the Texas Hill Country on a hot August day while driving around, searching for a place to cool off and enjoy a drink. We walked into a lovely family-run winery with live music, cold AC, and some of the most delicious and unique wine we had ever tasted. Exploring boutique wineries dedicated to crafting exceptional Texas wines has become one of our favorite pastimes.
Perissos is where it all began for us almost 15 years ago. Just minutes from our place on Lake LBJ, Perissos is our absolute favorite! We've been proud wine club members since 2012. The wines are outstanding and the winery is lovely with shaded outdoor seating and plenty of indoor seating. Bring a picnic or check their social media for food trucks and/or live music. No reservations required.
The newest vineyard to make our list. The winemakers are William Chris (see below) and the wine is EXCELLENT! The tasting experience is guided with food pairings and you will likely be only one of two or three parties there making it feel very exclusive. Reservation required.
This small tasting room is in downtown Johnson City so not much of an outdoor winery experience. However, Henry the owner and winemaker is an amazing down-to-earth storyteller and has a unique non-interventionalist approach to winemaking that he loves to talk about. The wines are what many refer to as “natural wines” which may not be to everyone’s liking but the wine tasting experience with Henry is one you won't want to miss. Reservations required.
Siboney Cellars is a newer winery but Barbara, the winemaker, has been at it for a while having worked for many of the top winemakers in the area. Excellent wine, beautiful tasting room and view and EPIC charcuterie boards! Reservations recommended.
Ben Calais’s wine is hands down the best wine in the region. The tasting room is in a cellar dug into the side of a hill and there is no place to hang out and enjoy a glass after the tasting… but the wine is definitely worth it! Reservation required.
William Chris offers one of the nicest tasting experiences in the area. Excellent wine, a stunning tasting room and great service. A bit of a larger winery than the ones listed below but definitely a Texas wine country experience! Reservation required.
Co-owned by Ben Calais, French Connection is a great place to hang out and enjoy some of Ben’s signature style of wine (at slightly more affordable prices) with a great Texas hill country view. Reservation recommended.
This beautiful modern tasting room is only 6 minutes from French Connection and has good wine and another great view.
Really nice grounds and good wine - we enjoy their rose and red wines! Awesome if the weather permits sitting outside. The inside tasting rooms can get a little loud. Our favorite server is Aleida. Reservations recommended.
The wines here are good but not all from Texas. The story of the winery and the perfectly manicured landscaping make it even better. This is in Fredericksburg about 12 minutes from French Connection. Reservation recommended.
The newest addition to our list, Crown Hill is owned by a lovely couple from Houston. They have lovely outdoor and indoor tasting spaces and the wine was great, too!
